R.O.C.K. Ride - Results
2009
While the threat of rain and storms kept some riders away, 84 still braved the risk and rode down to the 6th annual R.O.C.K. The bad weather cleared by 10am and the ride proceeded without a drop of rain. A delayed start and a shorter route of 150 km was planned on Friday to ensure the roads could dry and distant riders had a chance to make it with minimal moisture. As one participant, whose bad timing had him caught in a heavy downpour on the way in,stated upon his drenched arrival at Motorsport H-D, " I figure cancer sucks a lot more than this rain."
The midpoint had to be changed to Grande Pointe, just a couple miles up the road from Mitchell's Bay; where the Dover Optimists served up their customary BBQ. The Jed band rocked the Stubborn Mule upon our return, with a special performance by 9 year old Victoria Thomas.
The total announced was $32, 500, a new record for the R,O.C.K. Within 48 hours, that number had jumped to $33,200, thanks to a couple of riders who were unable to attend bringing in their donations.
The Club Cup went to Bluewater H.O.G. again this year whose combined total was $1715. The Top Fundraiser was Mike Krause of Sarnia, raising $3180.00. Second highest was Mike Johnston of Corunna with $1740, and Third was Don Conibear of Guelph with $1730. The Grand Prize raffle was won by Mike Krause. The Blue Jay tickets were won by Dave Veitch of Sarnia.
Thanks to everyone who put forth so much effort this year in supporting this worthy cause. Despite the current economic conditions, despite the threat of rain, we still had an excellent turnout, raised a record amount in research dollars and had a R.O.C.K.in' good time.
